District competition for the Class 6A Arlington school district teams begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, with a big faceoff right off the bat as Lamar hosts Martin. Martin was the 4-6A runner-up to North Crowley last season, while Lamar has been heating up and won the recent Arlington Invitational.
Last season, the Lady Vikings were the No. 4 seed in their district.
Arlington, another contender that had a win over Martin in the Fraulein Volleyfest in late August, will travel to Weatherford for its opener. The Lady Colts played well at the Arlington tournament, earning a spot in the gold bracket.
Sam Houston hosts Bowie in the district opener. Both teams have had strong play throughout their nondistrict schedules.
Seguin, already in district competition in 14-5A, visits Waxahachie at 5:30 p.m. Friday. The Lady Cougars had a rough start to district, including losses to Mansfield’s Summit and Timberview squads.
Week 3 brings a lot of football to Arlington, but only one Arlington team has a Friday night home game. Lamar hosts Justin Northwest at 7:30 p.m. at Cravens Field.
Arlington High visits Garland Lakeview Centennial, and Martin visits South Grand Prairie, both 7:30 p.m. kickoffs Friday.
While Saturday sees Seguin on the road for a 4:30 p.m. game with Dallas Carter, AT&T Stadium has a showcase beginning at 5 p.m. with Hurst L.D. Bell hosting Midland, followed by Lancaster hosting Trinity and Trophy Club Nelson hosting Birdville.
Sam Houston visits Dallas Kimball at 8 p.m. Saturday, while Bowie has an early bye week.
