It may be April, but it's not golf weather yet

With temperatures dipping into the 40s and winds blowing at 25 mph, Monday was not a good day for golf.

But the high school teens teeing it up at Waterchase Golf Club in Fort Worth had little choice. They were playing in the Class 4A Region 2 boys golf tournament with the hopes of qualifying for state.

“These are horrible conditions for our kids to play in,” said Aubrey Johnson, golf coach for Dallas Adamson High School.

The golfers will be back at it Tuesday morning, where temperatures will be even colder, said Jesse Moore, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

The golfers, as they did Monday, will be wearing plenty of wind wear and fleece, ear bands and thick socks on what could be the final frigid gasp of one of the coldest seasons we’ve witnessed.

“We’ll be prepared for adverse conditions,” Johnson said. “All of them complained about the cold, but they’re golfers and they know that dealing with the elements is part of the game.”
