A 49-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in the robbery of a bank inside an Arlington grocery store, police said.

Eric J. Montgomery of Arlington was in federal custody, said Tiara Ellis Richard, a police spokeswoman.

He is suspected in the March 7 robbery of the First Convenience Bank inside a grocery store in the 2400 block of Ascension Boulevard, Richard said in a news release.

According to an earlier report, the robber entered the bank at about 11:30 a.m. and told a teller that he wanted to make a withdrawal. He indicated that he had a weapon and gave the teller a bank bag. The teller placed an undetermined amount of cash into the bag and the man fled.

“Thanks to the multiple tips provided by the public after viewing the suspect photo on social media and traditional news media, Arlington police and FBI officials were able to identify Eric J. Montgomery as the suspect,” Richard said.
