White Settlement looking to add retailers

Tens of thousands of visitors are expected to flock to White Settlement annually to visit the Hawaiian Falls entertainment complex, and city officials want to capitalize on potential spending power.
The city has hired a national retail consulting firm, the Retail Coach, to study what types of shopping are needed and where they should go.
“This development along with our growing base of industry and hospitality amenities presents an ideal time to take a proactive approach in shaping our retail environment,” Mayor Jerry Burns said. “We want to identify White Settlement’s additional opportunities for retail expansion, whether that means attracting a new retailer or helping our existing businesses expand their products and services to meet local consumer demand.”
The 16-acre Hawaiian Falls water and adventure park, and the Aloha Conference Center open on Memorial Day weekend at Clifford Street and Loop 820 on land near Veterans Park owned by the city. The park has created more than 250 seasonal jobs and more than 30 year-round jobs, the city said.
The Retail Coach will conduct four studies to determine a retail trade area and analyze retail opportunities. The analysis will show which 52 retail categories in the city could use a boost and why residents are shopping elsewhere.
Another study will involve sampling license plates from consumers shopping in White Settlement and visiting hotels to determine where they are from. The Retail Coach will also conduct an employment summary that includes business types and employment numbers.
Southlake scores PGA TOUR Superstore
PGA TOUR Superstore, an Atlanta-based golf retailer, plans to open a store in Southlake this fall.
The store will be on the southwest corner of Southlake Boulevard and Kimball Avenue. It will be its third Texas store, joining two Plano locations. A definite opening date has not been set, a company spokesman said.
PGA TOUR is also opening stores in Orlando, Fla., and north Scottsdale, Ariz., this year.
“Despite a flat retail landscape in the golf industry, we have growth plans that prove experiential retail is alive and well,” PGA Tour President and CEO Dick Sullivan said in a statement. “We currently have plans to grow PGA TOUR Superstore’s presence by up to 25 percent per year over the next five years in locations across the U.S.”
PGA TOUR Superstore has 19 stores ranging from 40,000 to 50,000 square feet. Each store has up to 14 custom fitting simulators and practice bays.
“What’s different about PGA TOUR Superstore is we purposely design our stores with what the golfers want from an experience and product assortment point of view,” Sullivan said.
PGA TOUR Superstores feature certified golf pros, personalized golf lessons and golf technology, equipment, apparel, custom fitting and repairs.
The stores are owned and operated by Golf & Tennis Pro Shop, whose controlling owner and chairman is Arthur M. Blank, retired Home Depot co-founder and owner of the Atlanta Falcons.
