Furniture store chain buys former Macy’s space at Six Flags Mall

A few weeks after buying the former Macy’s space at the defunct Six Flags Mall in Arlington, Fort Worth real estate investor G.L. “Buck” Harris sold the property to Arlington-based Canales Real Estate Group, which operates a chain of furniture stores in the Metroplex.
Founded in 2003, Canales Furniture has nine stores: two in Arlington, Fort Worth and Dallas, and one each in Bedford, Mesquite and Mansfield, according to its website.
Canales President Liliana Mitchell could not be reached for comment on the company’s plans for the two-story, 163,166-square-foot building.
Harris bought the nearly 364,000-square-foot center portion of the former mall and the former J.C. Penney anchor site more than two years ago. He has been converting the space into a Hispanic-themed shopping center called Plaza Central.
Harris said in an e-mail that the former Macy’s space will not be part of Plaza Central.
In early April, Harris bought the Macy’s space from a Dallas investor group called 2901 Division LLC.
Kroger buys land in north Fort Worth
Kroger bought 10.5 acres at the northeast corner of North Tarrant Parkway and Park Vista Boulevard, but a spokesman said it was too soon to talk about plans for a supermarket.
“We have no development plans yet; sometime in the future,” spokesman Gary Huddleston said.
Kroger bought the land from the residential development arm of Hillwood, deed records said. Hillwood, owned by Ross Perot Jr., is the developer behind the 18,000-acre AllianceTexas in far north Fort Worth.
In November, Kroger said it was spending $150 million to build five stores, including one on Precinct Line Road in North Richland Hills, and expand three others.
Renovations planned at north Arlington apartments
WinnCompanies, a national real estate development and property management firm, and the Roseview Group, a private real estate investment and advisory firm, have teamed to buy the Trails at River Park apartment community off Green Oaks Boulevard near River Legacy Park in north Arlington.
The acquisition was made through its Roseview WinnResidential Fund I, established in 2013.
The Trails at River Park, 711 Trinity Circle, has 420 units in 23 buildings and was built in 1980. It was 96.4 percent leased at the time of the sale. WinnCompanies said it will make improvements to the clubhouse, swimming pool and building exteriors this year, as well as add a fitness center and dog park.
It also plans to renovate 300 units over three years.
Sandlin Homes plans second development
Sandlin Homes in North Richland Hills plans a $43 million master-planned residential development called Pine Meadows at North Beach Street and North Tarrant Parkway, just north of Thompson Road, the home builder said.
Construction will begin in June. Homes will priced from the $150,000s. Pine Meadows will have about 185 single-family homes.
“We chose this location because of the opportunity for our residents to live in the exceptional Keller ISD,” Scott Sandlin said in a statement. “This fantastic location combined with our reputation as a quality builder will create a high demand from families looking for first-time and move-up homes in this area.”
Sandlin recently said it was also doing a $50 million development in North Richland Hills called Cambridge.
12500 South Freeway, Burleson
BIR joint venture has leased 2,500 square feet of office space. Kelley Ahrens of CBRE represented the landlord, EBD BEMC Burleson LLC.
455 Sherry Lane, Fort Worth
99 Cents Only Stores has leased 16,529 square feet for a store. Daniel Taylor and Andrew Wiley of CBRE represented the tenant. Chris Sacks and Jeff Kittleson of CBRE represented the landlord, Arrowrock Westover Village.
3001 Roy Orr Blvd., Grand Prairie
Xylem Dewater Solutions has leased 12,000 square feet from Contractors Access Equipment Inc. Michael Chiocca of CBRE represented the tenant. Kacy Jones and Steve Koldyke of CBRE represented the landlord.
1250 William D. Tate Ave., Grapevine
The city of Grapevine has leased 20,000 square feet. Michael Stern of Edge Realty Partners represented the tenant. Amy Nott of CBRE represented the landlord, KKM Grapevine.
Southlake Boulevard and Carroll Avenue, Southlake
Elos Aqua Studios, a retailer of high-end aquarium products and services for custom builds, has leased 2,200 square feet in the Shops of Southlake. Daniel Harris of Henry S. Miller represented the tenant, an Italian company.
