TSA moving its DFW Pre-Check application office outside security

The TSA Pre-Check office, which takes applications for the program, will move from the secured area inside Terminal D to a spot outside security near gate D30.

The TSA’s Pre-Check program can help travelers move more quickly through security lines at DFW and other airports around the country.

And starting this week, getting to the Pre-Check office at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport to apply to participate in the program will be much easier too.

On Thursday, the TSA is moving the Pre-Check application office from inside the secured area in Terminal D near gate D22, to a spot outside of the secured area near gate D30. With the new location, consumers won’t have to have a boarding pass to get to an appointment at the Transportation Security Administration office.

“This will provide easier access to passengers who want to apply for the program,” said TSA spokeswoman Carrie Harmon in an e-mail statement. “In addition, this will free up space at D-22 so that TSA can add two lanes to that checkpoint to accommodate the increased number of international flights at DFW.”

With TSA Pre-Check, travelers can keep their belts and shoes on while moving through expedited security checkpoints at an airport. It costs $85 for a five-year membership.

But consumers must make an appointment and visit an application center to provide information such as date of birth and address, get fingerprinted and provide identity and citizenship documentation.

Pre-Check started as a pilot program at DFW and several other airports in 2011 for frequent fliers, but started open enrollment in December. — Andrea Ahles

GM Arlington plant staying busy

Things are hopping at GM’s Arlington Assembly Plant.

Last week, the plant’s new lineup of large sport utility vehicles was credited with helping General Motors boost its June sales, even as the company deals with fallout from massive recalls caused by problems with an ignition switch on millions of cars.

Sales of the Chevrolet Tahoe nearly doubled to more than 11,000 in June, while sales of the GMC Yukon more than doubled to 3,946, according to an analyst at Kelley Blue Book. Cadillac Escalade sales were up 57 percent.

According to the Detroit Free Press, brisk sales of pickups and SUVs have prompted GM, Ford and Chrysler to eliminate or shorten their traditional two-week summer shutdown at many plants in July. GM is expected to keep about one-third of its plants running, and plant officials told the Dallas Morning News that the Arlington plant will keep humming.

Spokeswoman Donna McLallen told the Morning News that the Arlington plant, operating three shifts during the week, also ran three recent Saturdays and even ran overtime on a recent Sunday as it scrambles to keep up with demand.

Last fall, GM opened a stamping plant at its Arlington complex as part of a $530 million expansion and overhaul of the complex to prepare for the new SUV models. The plant added a thousand jobs, bringing the workforce to more than 4,000. Gov. Rick Perry visited in May to celebrate the plant’s 60th anniversary. — From wire reports

McEuen receiving Silver Medal Award

Gina Rodgers McEuen, creative services manager-employee benefits at the Higginbotham insurance firm, is being honored with the Silver Medal Award of the American Adverising Federation Fort Worth chapter.

The professional organization said McEuen has advanced the advertising profession for 30 years. She is past president and co-creative director of Robegraffix Advertising Design in Fort Worth.

“She has given so much back to the community through her support of nonprofit organizations with her design skills and strategic thinking,” the club said.

The Silver Medal Award was established in 1959 to recognize outstanding leadership in the community, creative ability, and contributions to the club as well as the general advancement of advertising.

McEuen will be honored at a luncheon Wednesday, July 16, at Joe T. Garcia’s La Puertita, 2201 N. Commerce St.
