Who has the Boeing 787?
There are 258 Boeing 787s currently delivered to 32 customers.
United Airlines is the only U.S. airline that operates the Dreamliner; American Airlines will be the second when it starts flights in May.
Other customers include: All Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines, British Airways, Qantas Airways and Qatar Airways.

What is the 787 made of?
Instead of a standard aluminum frame, the aircraft is 50 percent composite by weight. Boeing uses a Carbon Laminate composite for most of the fuselage and a Carbon Sandwich composite for its wings and engine casings.
Compared to the 777-300ER that American flies on international routes?
The 787 it is not the largest aircraft that American flies on its international routes. Currently, the Fort Worth-based airline has 17 Boeing 777-300ERs in its fleet which is larger than the 787. The 777-300ER has a wingspan of 212 feet, is 242 feet in length and 60 feet in height. It carriers 310 passengers.
Where will the Dreamliner fly?
American will first use the 787 on domestic flights between its hub cities such as DFW to Chicago. Starting in June, it will shift the 787s to three destinations out of DFW including Beijing, Shanghai and Buenos Aires.
Cost of the Dreamliner?
Boeing lists the price of a 787-800 as $218.3 million and the 787-900 as $257.1 million. However, most airlines do not pay the list price as they negotiate the purchase of an individual plane as part of a larger aircraft order.
How many does American have on order?
American has 42 Boeing 787s on order that can be either the -800 or -900 version, with the option to purchase 58 additional aircraft.
Why is it called the Dreamliner?
When the plane was introduced in July 2003, Boeing held a public naming competition. Out of 500,000 votes cast online, the winning title was Dreamliner. Other names in the pool included eLiner, Global Cruiser and Stratoclimber.
