American Airlines announced it will use its new Boeing 787 on its Dallas/Fort Worth to Shanghai route starting on June 26.
It is the third route that the Fort Worth-based carrier has revealed for the Dreamliner.
American plans to first fly the Boeing 787 between DFW and Chicago O’Hare starting on May 7 as crew members get used to flying the new aircraft. It will then be used on the DFW-Beijing route on June 2 and will also operate on the DFW-Buenos Aires routes starting on June 4.
The carrier has been receiving the Boeing 787s at a slower rate than it had originally anticipated as there have been issues installing the new lie-flat seats from Zodiac Aerospace. Currently, there are two Dreamliners that are parked in the California desert for American, awaiting the delivery of the new seats.
American will have 226 seats on the Boeing 787 with 28 lie-flat business class seats, 48 main cabin extra seats and 150 main cabin seats. The airline has 42 Boeing 787s on order with the option to purchase an additional 58 aircraft.
