Car dealer Mac Churchill has bought the former Park Place Motorcars location on Airport Freeway in Bedford and plans to open a luxury pre-owned car dealership in April.

The 12-acre site, with a 65,000-square-foot showroom and service center, has been vacant for three years and needed quite a bit of cleaning and painting, Churchill said.

It is scheduled to open April 1 as Mac Churchill Auto Mall, selling such luxury names such as Monte Carlo, BMW, Acura, Lexus and Infiniti, he said.

The expansion of his dealership, Mac Churchill Acura in Fort Worth, comes as more buyers look for pre-owned luxury brands, he said.

“Yesterday, we had a woman from California fly in to look at a used Maserati, 2 years old with 1,200 miles,” Churchill said Thursday.

Churchill said he expects to draw buyers from across the region and even worldwide. The lot, at 3737 Airport Freeway, is large enough to hold 700 to 800 cars, he said.

“This car business is all over, especially with the Internet now,” he said, adding that he has shipped cars as far away as Russia and New Zealand.

Churchill bought the property from Capital Automotive Real Estate Services, deed records show. The McLean, Va., real estate investment trust provides sale-leaseback capital to the automotive retail industry, according to its website.

Two years ago, Churchill completed a $5 million expansion at its Acura dealership at 3125 NE Loop 820.

Park Place Motorcars moved in 2011 to Texan Trail in Grapevine.
