Active rigs in the Barnett Shale were up two this week to 29 after taking a big drop last week to 27, the lowest since July, according to RigData.

Areas richer in oil and natural gas liquids continued to top the list, headed by Montague County with seven rigs; Tarrant, Wise and Jack counties with four; and Denton County with three.

Nationally, the rig count dipped one to 1,761, Baker Hughes of Houston said. Rigs seeking oil were up two, to 1,387; rigs seeking gas were down one, to 369; and miscellaneous rigs were down two to five.
