An anonymous tip has led to the arrest of a 30-year-old man who Dallas police believe is responsible for three sexual assaults in the Lake Highlands area since February.
Dallas police identified the suspect as Cesar Benitez, who was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon during a traffic stop.
Benitez confessed to investigators that he attacked the women and a palm print from the crime scene of one of the attacks matched Benitez's prints, Dallas police said in an email news release.
Benitez also voluntarily provided DNA and that sample was being analyzed, police said. Results of those tests had not been completed.
Benitez remained in the Dallas County Jail on Wednesday with bail set at $4.5 million.
Dallas police said he has been charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault for two of the attacks. Authorities are investigating the suspect for the third attack.
Benitez was arrested about 1 p.m. Tuesday after a brief foot pursuit.
Dallas patrol officers observed Benitez driving southbound on North Central Expressway at Walnut Hill Lane. He exited the freeway, drove to a business parking lot and fled his vehicle.
The attacks occurred on Feb. 22, March 15 and March 19 in the Lake Highlands area of northeast Dallas.
On March 25, Dallas police received the tip regarding a possible suspect who may have committed the attacks. The tipster shared information with authorities about a man who resembled one of the composite sketches released by police on March 22.
Detectives worked up leads on the suspect's home and the type of vehicle he was driving, then passed that information along to patrol officers.
