Reality TV sensations Phil and Alan Robertson of Duck Dynasty fame have teamed with Christian publisher Thomas Nelson to release a New King James Version of the good book called The Duck Commander Faith and Family Bible ($29.99) . It includes 30 testimonials, as well as 125 “Set Your Sights” features from the famous father-and-son team.
Just three days after the book hit shelves, the duo will make a promotional appearance and sign books from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Wal-Mart, 8520 N. Beach St. in Fort Worth. Later this evening, they’ll travel to the Fort Worth Convention Center for a benefit for the Dallas-based Messianic Jewish Bible Institute.
The Wal-Mart book signing is free and unticketed, and although the official end time is noon, organizers say they expect the personable Robertsons to stay and linger with their fans. Books will be available for purchase and signing.
Speaking recently with the Star-Telegram about the book, Alan Robertson answered a few questions about what readers might expect:
How did the book come about?
When it comes to the Bible, that’s the book. ... I mean, I spent 22 years as a full-time minister, so I’ve spent a lot of time with my Bible being in my hand, and that’s as both a student and teacher of the Bible. It was very appealing to us — the idea that we would put some of our teachings and some of our studies in there with the Bible.
What can readers expect to find and learn about your family within the book?
What we did was, we basically took sort of the five elements of the Robertson family ... faith, family, fellowship, forgiveness and freedom. With us it starts with faith, always — you know, the tagline for our show for months was faith, family and ducks, in that order. We do it in typical Robertson style: We write a lot of stories about our own lives, the stories of people that we’ve met along the journey. We have a segment in the book that’s kind-of a learning segment called life changers. That’s about people that have had major life changes.
What can fans of the show expect from the seventh season of Duck Dynasty?
A lot of fun, of course, as always. We made a major trip, which will kick off our new season and there’s more of Al, as well — so more beardless bro. It’ll be an hourlong special. I can’t tell you where it is, but it’s somewhere we went to overseas. We’re filming a Christmas episode soon, and it’ll be fantastic. It’ll be a stand-alone episode after the season ends.
Is there anything else that you would want readers to know?
For people that are already believers who have people that they might want to start a spiritual discussion with but aren’t sure how ... this might be a great thing to give to them and put in their hands.
