Admiral Linen Service of Houston has bought 6.38 acres behind its East Berry Street service center from the Metroplex Food Bank, according to deed records.
Admiral Linen has been on Berry Street for about 10 years. It serves restaurants, industrial companies and healthcare companies.The Metroplex Food Bank shuttered the location, 3200 Yuma St., after a fire in July 2006. The former main distribution warehouse and what appears to be a fleet building are still standing, but a spokesman for Admiral said the company will clean the property and remove those structures.Lynn Simmons, a spokeswoman with Admiral in Houston, said the company doesn’t have plans for the land. Admiral was founded in 1948.Opal Lee, Metroplex Food Bank chairman, did not return phone calls seeking comment on the land deal.The Metroplex Food Bank was founded in 1982 as a spinoff of the Loaves and Fishes soup kitchen ministry on the city’s southeast side. In 1995, the ministry bought the former Jax beer warehouse on Yuma Street.Apartments soldThe Windridge Apartments in Grand Prairie is among a portfolio of three multifamily properties that has been sold in a $29.6 million deal to an ownership venture in Midland and Tulsa.The three communities, built in the mid- to late 1980s, have 928 units.
