FORT WORTH — Carter BloodCare needs donations to restock blood supplies depleted Thursday by the response to the Fort Hood shootings.
Carter BloodCare sent several units of O negative blood and several units of platelets, Chief Operating Officer Bobby Grigsby said."We answered their call as soon as we got it," Grigsby said. "We would really like to see people call our neighborhood centers and make appointments to donate."O negative donors are universal donors, Carter officials said.Carter BloodCare is the primary supplier to Killeen-area hospitals. Blood was sent to hospitals including Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood, Scott & White Healthcare, and the VA hospitals in Temple.Potential blood donors must be at least 17 years old, or 16 with a parent’s consent, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good general health. A photo ID is required. There is no upper age limit for donors, and most medications do not interfere with eligibility.MITCH MITCHELL, 817-390-7752
