LINDEN -- The suspect in this week's fatal shooting of a Department of Public Safety trooper killed himself Thursday as authorities closed in on him, the DPS reported. The body of Brandon Wayne Robertson, 37, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound just outside Linden in Cass County by officers who had tracked him with the help of calls he made to 911 and calls to a tip line after a reward was offered, according to a news release. Robertson, a former police officer, was accused of killing trooper James Scott Burns on Tuesday night near Lake O' The Pines. Robertson had been arrested by troopers as recently as April 6, when he was accused of possession of a controlled substance. He was released the next day after posting bail. The DPS still doesn't know why Burns pulled Robertson over Tuesday, a spokeswoman said. Jennifer Lynne Petrick, 36, was arrested when Robertson's body was found.

State representative accused of DWI
GEORGETOWN -- State Rep. Mike Krusee, R-Round Rock, chairman of the House Transportation Committee, spent Wednesday night in the Williamson County Jail after a state trooper pulled him over in northwest Austin, officials said. Krusee was arrested after the trooper saw Krusee driving erratically and then noted a "strong smell of alcohol," said Tela Mange, a Department of Public Safety spokeswoman. Krusee failed a field sobriety test, and his vehicle registration was expired, Mange said. Krusee declined to take a breath test at the jail, so by law, his license was automatically suspended for 180 days. Bail was set at $1,000, and Krusee was released Thursday morning. He is charged with first-offense driving while intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor with punishment ranging from probation to a maximum of 180 days in jail and fines up to $2,000. Krusee's office referred questions to his attorney, who did not return a phone message.
