The Texas Western Model Railroad Club is again opening its doors to railroad enthusiasts every Saturday this month, the only time of the year that nonmembers can check out the 4,400-square-foot layout of old Americana.

The dues-paying club has worked for 12-plus years to build an exact model of Western railroading in the 1940s and ’50s, from the Port of Houston through downtown Fort Worth and on to Pueblo, Colo.

The setup has more than 700 cars and 650 feet of track. Several new scenes have been completed since last year, club President Darrell Cowles said.

The building, behind Joe P. Williams Air Compressor Co. at 6807 Anglin Drive, will be open 3-9 p.m. every Saturday in November. Admission is free but donations are welcome.

Because the quarters are tight, visitors with disabilities should call 817-478-0410 for special arrangements. — Chris Vaughn
