It’s inevitable: The holidays, while usually stocking-stuffed with good times, can be a minefield of minor mistakes, small snafus and general faux pas.

Ever made a charred disaster out of the holiday turkey, for example? What about those delicate topics of dinner-table conversation that set the entire family on a fidgety edge, or that awkward moment under the mistletoe? And how about that Christmas tree that all but toppled over, the menorah or votive candles that nearly ignited the mantel, or the re-gift that somehow ended up in the hands of its original giver?

The Star-Telegram is always interested in your tales of ho-ho-ho. Now we’d like to hear your tales of mild holiday woe. A select number of your accounts will be chosen to appear in the Dec. 13 Life, Arts & Travel section.

What to send: In 300 words or less, please recount your favorite holiday mishap story. (Please keep it clean and expletive-free for the family paper!) Be specific about when and where it happened. And yes, names may be changed to protect the innocent (but to protect yourself, it might be a good idea to tell the people involved that you’re submitting the story for publication).

Where to send it: Please send your stories to amarton@star-telegram.com with "holiday mishap" in the e-mail’s subject line. You can also mail them to Andrew Marton, Holiday Mishaps, c/o Star-Telegram Features Dept., Box 1870, Fort Worth, TX, 76102.

Deadline: Entries must be received by Nov. 20.

Star-Telegram employees are not eligible.
