With sugarplum fairies dancing in our head, we’re dreaming of a sweet Christmas, and maybe it’s because we’ve become totally enchanted by the cakes on these pages.
Each work of holiday-themed artistry, conceptualized and created by local cake bakers, captures the magic of the season in a mesmerizing way; from a winter wonderland of snow-capped scenery to a nutcracker set for “ten-hut.”
Merry and bright, these festive cakes officially put us in the Christmas spirit.
Five topsy-turvy tiers — some peppermint, some air-brushed white to ice blue — set the stage for three Christmastime scenes that create a whimsical winter wonderland on the cake at Megan Rountree’s Legacy Cakes. Around the base, cake designer Libby Rowe has a train that follows along chocolate brown tracks. In the center, a snow-capped gingerbread house is surrounded by gumdrops and mints. At the top, a bouncy polar bear hangs out near his icicle-fringed cave. And with the flip of a small switch, glowing lights appear in each festive setting.

With his prim and proper flat-top hat and decorated military jacket adorned with gold cap sleeves, this nutcracker deserves a full salute. Designed by Blue Bonnet Bakery co-owner Jennifer Hart and created by her co-owner husband, Mike, the playful Christmas cake was inspired in part by a groom’s cake of a U.S. Marine the couple once crafted. Four-tiered and knife-friendly, the cake is easy to dismantle and serve — although it’s almost too cute to do so.

Christmas in Paris
Speaking of fantasies, one of ours is Christmas shopping in Paris, a scene Haute Cakes & Cookies owner Wendy Collinsworth captures in her Parisian-themed cake. A Christmas tree made of shimmery French macarons crowns a would-be sidewalk of some of Paris’ most luxe street-side shops. Sashay around the bottom tiers and find replicas of Louis Vuitton, Hermès and Chanel stores, embellished with holiday window decor, along with Ladurée, considered the macaron capital of the world.

Christmas Sweet Treat Explosion
Leah Cichocki is known for fun bursts of big color found in her specialty cakes and cupcakes, as well as in her stylish wardrobe. Sweet holiday treats cut from handmade fondant embellish a Christmas version of her bakery’s signature sprinkle cake — three tiers covered entirely with red, green and white sprinkles. Cichocki calls it a “Christmas explosion” of candies, cookies and gingerbread men, all topped with a Rudolph doll.
