Eats Beat: Concerts and cheesecake? Chain-dining fave sets up by Bass Hall

Bass Hall has gone cheesecake.

OK, not exactly. But the closing of Ferré in favor of the region’s sixth Cheesecake Factory will drive some arts patrons to other dining nearby, particularly Bird Café.

A gastropub for all occasions, Bird shares the symphony hall’s respect for art and artists. The cafe walls showcase 40 prints by late Fort Worth artists Scott and Stuart Gentling, also known for the hall dome.

The Cheesecake Factory, meanwhile, will fill 8,700 square feet on East Third Street at Commerce Street, with the front door at the old Barnes & Noble bookstore cafe entrance and the dining room replacing the old Ferré. The restaurant also will have a 900-square-foot patio.

If you haven’t gone to a Cheesecake Factory lately, there are two others in Tarrant County, in Arlington and Southlake.

Recent promotions include summer drinks, late dining hours and the company’s 40 or so flavors of cheesecake, plus the popular Sunday brunch starting at 10 a.m.; thecheesecakefactory.com.

(Note to Sundance Square: By the time Cheesecake opens around the holidays, should you add valet parking on Sundays. I know brunch was never busy before. But it will be now.)

Busy at Bite City

Most popular of the new American bar-and-grills might be Bite City Grill, packed most weekend nights lately.

“Chef Eddy” Thretipthuangsin brought a similar menu from his former Long Island restaurant in the Hamptons. He has added drink infusions and a catchy cocktail drink menu with a drink for each sign — consider, for instance, the “Aries” (tea- and cherry-infused gin with mint) or the “Pisces” (Crown Royal Maple with vermouth and amaretto).

Best time to find parking on the West Sixth Street side of Montgomery Plaza is on weeknights or at lunch. Bite City Grill serves an oversized cheddar burger with grilled onions ($15), a notable chicken-Gruyère sandwich or an impressive shrimp BLT.

New from Mico

New in Dallas: Mesero opens this weekend, previewing a new concept from long-ago Mi Cocina founder Mico Rodriguez that is headed for Fort Worth.

Mesero’s catchline is “Mexican Spirits — American Life.” It’s yet another idea from the investors that started Mr. Mesero on McKinney Avenue and Mesero Miguel on Henderson Avenue.

Rodriguez has said he will open a Mesero in the new shops on West Seventh Street at Van Cliburn Way.
