Friday Freebies: Celebrate imagination

It's time for a little Springtime outdoor activity with the family. Get artistic in Fort Worth or Southlake, watch the aviation precision and skill of the Blue Angels in Fort Worth, get green in Plano or take your family's best friend to the Dog Bowl in Dallas. 

Main Street Arts Festival: One of the best art and people watching festivals in Texas! Take the kids to "Main St. Creates" where they can artistic with plenty of hands-on arts and crafts activities (Note for parents: A few activities are free, but a majority require coupons that must be purchased at coupon booths). There will also be live entertatinment on Saturday and Sunday from Latin-style percussionist Dan Egger Belandria, Great Promise for American Indians and Sol de Fort Worth Ballet Folklórico. Don't forget to stroll through the booths to see wonderful art and catch the Spring Snapshot Contest winners displayed at the Star-Telegram booth. 
Good to know: Coupons are $10 for a strip of 10; Individual coupons are $1 each.

Air Power Expo: The Blue Angels will be back for this two-day showcase of aviation. Naval Air Station Fort Worth is dispensing with its usual firm security measures and will allow visitors on base for this military event flown by pilots in uniform. Don't forget to bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and a folding chair or a blanket if you plan on sitting. Binoculars and cameras will come in handy too.
Good to know: Baby strollers are permitted. Parking is free. Food, drink and memorabilia will be sold on-site (no credit cards; ATMs on-site). Expect to have your bags and purses inspected. Do not bring outside food or drink, pets, coolers, ice chests, backpacks, large bags, alcohol or weapons (regardless of whether you’re a permit holder).

When: Show starts at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 16 and Sunday, April 15. Gates open at 9 a.m. each day.

Art in the Square: This juried art festival includes a Kid's Korner where activities include face painting, colored hair spray, sugar art and oil coloring. Don't miss the Youth Art in the Square, which displays work from aspiring high school artists.
Good to know: Kid's Korner hours are 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, April 15; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, April 16; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, April 17.

Live Green Expo: Take the family to learn about how to make your lives healthy and green. Activities include an Eco Fashion Show, DIY demos, Green Art Swap, exhibits, locally-grown food and entertainment. Kids will also be able to participate in a number of kids activities including kite making, arts and crafts, solar car races, recycling truck experience and a Kids Town where children can envision an ideal green world.
Good to know: Don't forget to bring your bikes to the event! A special bike safety course is set up for your kids to ride through, along with bicycle safety checks and identification engraving.

Dog Bowl: Bring the family's best friend to an event where canines of all sizes and their human companions get to run, catch and tackle on one of the most historic sports fields in America -- the Cotton Bowl. There will also be entertainment, exhibits activities including canine crafts, a pet/owner look-alike contest, an animal-only agility course, frisbee demos and more.
Good to know: The City of Dallas charges $10 for parking within the gates of Fair Park, or visitors can ride the DART Rail Green Line to the Fair Park Station. Please note: Non-service animals are allowed on DART only if they are in crates.
