The Memorial Day holiday is a day to remember all who have - and are serving - in the U.S. armed forces. Here are free family-friendly events in the Dallas/Fort Worth area during the holiday weekend:
Memorial Day Ceremony
Pay tribute to the men and women in the U.S. armed forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice. This year's event will include a bagpiper, 21-gun salute, flyover, photo display, musical entertainment and military memorabilia for sale.
Blue Star Museums
The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth is one of more than 2,000 museums across the United States to offer free admission to military personnel and their families this summer. The program runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day. However, the Modern will begin free admission on Friday, May 23, and offer it through Sunday, August 31 (the Modern is closed on Labor Day). The free admission program is available to active-duty military and their families (the military ID holder and five immediate family members). Active-duty military personnel include Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and National Guard and Reserve members. The Modern will also include retired military and veterans with identification.
Grapevine Summer Blast
Every Friday night from Memorial Day to Labor Day, Grapevine features a 12-minute fireworks show over Lake Grapevine.
Summer Fun at Studio A
Each month, "Summer Fun in Studio A" will introduce new learning activities that explore thematic “do-it-together” activities focusing on color, along with a reading nook and digital interactive station. These play-based, content-rich experiences will connect with artworks on view and concepts in early childhood development. Opening day will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 25 and will include studio-art activities for little ones and mini-classes for parents about exploring art with their children. Grand opening day visitors will also receive a special “colorific” gift.
