What could be better than an end-of-summer spa day for mom and daughter?

(Insert chorus of teenagers saying, “A spa day with friends!”)

Whether girls are 8 or 18, there’s no shortage of ways for them to pamper and primp before the first school bell rings.

Catering to the beauty needs of the younger set, many local spas offer a variety of services tailored for kids and teens (boys, too!), from specialized facials that help keep youngsters’ skin looking healthy and clean to fun packages that help them relax and unwind.

Uptown girly-girl

The uptown girl teen package takes four of Mokara Spa’s most popular treatments and customizes them for clients ages 12-17.

In addition to a luxurious manicure-pedicure combo, the package features a clean-skin facial specifically for teens’ needs.

Our favorite feature of the package, however, is the 30-minute School Stress Massage. Focusing on school-related problems such as stressed shoulders, book-bag backaches and stiff texting thumbs, the massage aims to leave teens feeling relaxed and renewed.

The sweet scoop

Located inside Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, the sweetly decorated Scooops Kid Spa is the perfect place to share an afternoon with your child, getting pampered and primped.

With an ice cream theme running throughout (there’s a banana-split throne), Scooops offers basic spa services and packages that range from a soothing chocolate organic facial to a relaxing icing hand massage.

There’s even the double swirl mommy & me pedicure package. Not only does it buy Mom and child time on the banana-split throne, but their toes are treated to a fun, flavored pedicure.

Breaking through

Dealing with and treating skin problems that plague teenagers can be quite frustrating.

You can help your child take a step toward clear skin with Artisan MedSpa, Laser & Wellness Center’s therapeutic acne facial. Ideal for helping clear blemishes, spots and blackheads, the 60-minute facial also helps improve the skin’s texture and appearance.

The facial is recommended for adolescents but also suggested for adults who suffer from occasional breakouts.

Details: $75; Artisan MedSpa, Laser & Wellness Center, 5500 Overton Ridge Blvd., Fort Worth; 817-423-5400,

Pint-size princess for a day

From its brightly colored decor to its colorful name, every detail of the Sweet & Sassy salon and spa in Southlake was made with kids in mind.

As a one-stop destination for all things beauty, Sweet & Sassy offers customers a variety of fun services and packages, ranging from boys’ and girls’ haircuts to manicures and pedicures.

For a day of rest and relaxation, we recommend the everything spa package. A compilation of the salon’s favorite spa services, it includes a mini-manicure/pedicure, a facial, a sweet hand treatment, two nail arts, two pieces of jewelry and the chance to create a custom lotion and sugar scrub.

Best face forward

Knowing exactly which products to use and what skin-care regimen to follow helps teens care for breakout-prone skin.

Through its teen facial service, Shelton’s Salon and Spa aims to direct teens toward a simple skin-care routine.

An aesthetician helps customize a facial treatment based on your teen’s needs and offers steps that she or he can take and products to use to achieve clear, healthy skin.

Details: $65; Shelton’s Salon and Spa, 2731 S. Hulen St., Fort Worth; 817-921-1744 and 2122 W. Park Row Drive, Arlington; 817-277-6339,

Mini manis

For a child, being treated to a manicure can be quite a treat. That’s why Hollywood Nails & Spa in Fort Worth has customized its popular manicure service for tiny fingers.

Just like it does for adult clients, the salon will soak, massage, exfoliate and moisturize your child’s hands.

Then, a skilled nail technician will trim and reshape your child’s nails, pushing back her cuticles and, if requested, applying nail polish.

Details: $18; Hollywood Nails and Spa, 6248 Camp Bowie Blvd., Fort Worth; 817-735-8100,
