One in occasional series on amusement parks.

Prepare for battle, people!

Transformers: The Ride - 3D is expected to open at Universal Studios Florida on June 20. What can riders expect?

What it is: Based on the popular movie franchise, the ride fuses HD 3D media and flight simulation technology to create an experience that puts you in the middle of the war between the Autobots and Decepticons. Each 12,000-pound vehicle will take 12 "recruits" along a 2,000-foot track. The 3D glasses allows guests to view high-definition animation on custom-built screens, some as high as 40 feet tall.

Good to know: Must be at least 40 inches tall to ride. Children 40 to 48-inches must be accompanied by someone who is 14 years old or older.

Where to stay: The Universal Orlando Resort has three on-site hotels within walking distance or a short, complimentary water taxi ride to the Universal Studios Florida and Universal's Islands of Adventure. On-site hotel guests enjoy benefits that include free Universal Express Unlimited ride access and early park admission to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal's Islands of Adventure.
