A family of four was rescued from the balcony of a town home on Bay Avenue in east Fort Worth and 10 people were displaced by a fire that spread to four units early on Christmas Day.

The fire call came in about 2 a.m. at the town homes at 12641 Bay Avenue.

The unidentified family members - a man, his wife and two small children - were on the rear balcony of one of the town homes, and firefighters deployed a ladder to rescue them, said Fire Department spokesman Glen E. Ellman.

Smoke and fire was billowing from the roof of the building, Ellman said in a news release.

The fire, which caused extensive damage to the four units, was brought under control at 3:12 a.m., Ellman said.

No injuries were reported in the blaze. Fire investigators had yet to determine what caused it.
