Bedford police appealed for help Thursday to identify a suspect or suspects in the stabbing death of a Bedford woman who was found in her apartment bedroom last month with her 14-year-old son alone in another room.
The victim was identified as Shenika "Hillary" Johnson, 33, who died from a stab wound to her neck, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner's office.
Johnson was discovered dead on July 20 in her apartment bedroom in the 800 block of Central Drive in Bedford at the Hamptons of Bedford Apartments.
At first, Bedford patrol officers responded to a welfare check of the teen, who police say has provided little information because he has developmental disablities.
Never miss a local story.
The boy was discovered by a maintenance worker who went to the apartment to investigate a water leak that was reported by a neighbor, Bedford police said.
After finding the boy, the worker exited the apartment and called Bedford police concerning the boy's welfare.
When they arrived, patrol officers entered the apartment and found the boy alone.
As they searched the apartment, police discovered Johnson's body in her bedroom, Bedford police said.
Police did not release any information on how long the teen had been in the apartment with his dead mother.
Anyone with information on the case should call Bedford police at 817-952-2411 or 817-952-2127. Residents could also contact Crime Stoppers at 817-469-8477.
