Blue Mound residents will have to boil water until further notice after one of three wells that serve the city failed earlier this week.
The city gets its water from Monarch Utilities with 800 customers.
David Yohe, regional compliance manager for SouthWest Water, Monarch's parent company, said the well has been repaired, but people should continue to boil water until tests to determine if there is harmful bacteria in the water are complete. The notice could be lifted tomorrow, he said.
In the meantime, people should buy bottled water or use water from another source, he said.
Never miss a local story.
Blue Mound is also under Stage 4 water restrictions because of the failed well. This means people cannot use sprinklers for irrigation. Instead, people are encouraged to use a bucket or watering can of five gallons or less.
Soaker hoses are permitted to water foundations. The watering restrictions should be lifted when the boil water notice is rescinded, Yohe said.
