GRAPEVINE -- A 32-year-old middle school band director was arrested this week, accused of exchanging sexually explicit e-mails and texts with a 15-year-old female former student, police said.
John McDaniel of Keller, who teaches at Colleyville Middle School, faces charges of online solicitation of a minor and having an improper relationship with a student, said Sgt. Robert Eberling, a Grapevine police spokesman. Police seized McDaniel's cellphone and computer and are sorting through data on them, police said.
Investigators contacted McDaniel on Thursday morning. He went to the Grapevine police station and confirmed information that detectives had gathered, Eberling said. He was arrested and released on bail.
The investigation is continuing with the help of school district officials, Eberling said.
On the middle school's website, Principal Toni Thalken posted a letter to parents stating that McDaniel has been placed on leave. If the investigation substantiates the allegations, district officials will institute termination procedures, the letter said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Grapevine police investigators at 817-410-3200.
