A 29-year-old man was fatally shot early Thursday by a woman who told police that he broke into her house.
James Green of Fort Worth was shot in the abdomen, chest and right arm, the Tarrant County medical examiner's office reported.
Police were dispatched to a residence in the 6700 block of Fortune Road shortly before 3:30 a.m. A woman, who said she was alone in the house, told officers that she was awakened by her doorbell ringing and called 911, police said. Before officers arrived, a man had entered the house, and she shot him.
"We still don't know what he was doing there," said officer Sharron Neal, a police spokeswoman. "We've been talking to both families."
The woman's family had recently purchased the residence.
Green lived about five miles away on Monticello Drive, according to the medical examiner.
