BEDFORD -- Central Drive is a popular north-south shortcut for commuters in Northeast Tarrant County, but it's going to be closed this weekend.
The road will be shut down at Texas 121/183 -- aka Airport Freeway -- as part of the $2.1 billion North Tarrant Express project.
The closure will be from 11 tonight through 5 a.m. Monday, said Lara Kohl, spokeswoman for construction firm Bluebonnet Contractors.
"The closure will allow for partial bridge demolition," Kohl said in a statement.
Motorists can expect delays and are urged to seek alternate routes. Southbound Central Drive traffic will be detoured to the westbound freeway frontage road to Forest Ridge Drive, where motorists may make a U-turn and go back to Central. Northbound traffic will be rerouted in much the same way to Westpark Way/Murphy Drive.
Central Drive also has a dedicated U-turn lane -- known in the highway industry as a Texas U-turn or Texas turnaround -- but that lane will be closed beginning today until the bridge work is completed in late 2012.
