How we work out
Group: Boot Camp Belles
Type of workout: Running. They met at a boot camp and started their running club 15 months ago.
Who's in the group: Mothers, daughters, sisters, walkers and runners. The all-female group ranges in age from 20s to 50s.
How often they meet: Group members typically hit the road Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. They do at least one 5K run a month, sometimes more. They also do marathons, including the White Rock and the Cowtown, which is their favorite.
What they do: Some are training for marathons, others are trying to improve their times in 5Ks. All of them run a lot of miles each week.
Why they do it: Camaraderie, friendships, support, challenges, accountability and encouragement. "We each have our own personal goals, reflective of our own strengths and weaknesses, that are supported unconditionally, and yet, are inspirational to one another," said Eileen Marsh, a longtime runner. Plus they all wear cool T-shirts whenever they compete in a running event. For the Cowtown Marathon they wore "Udderly Delicious" T-shirts. They've adopted a motto, taken from a T-shirt: "Run like the wind, drink like a fish." "We've made running a way of life, Marsh said.
