Never miss a local story.
What it's about: Author Frank Viva effortlessly weaves together sound, motion, color and form in his first children's book. From beginning to end, this book is a delightful romp. As an especially bendy man peddles his bike for a daylong trip along a sort of "yellow brick road," readers are treated to panoramic views of the coast, the countryside and the city. Each page has seven words or fewer, allowing the reader to admire the simple color palette (Viva only uses red, blue, white, yellow and black) and fluid forms. While there are few words, Viva manages to capture the motion of his illustrations, pairing full, turning sounds with his curving lines. The story is as natural as a walk in the park, except Viva has provided wheels.
Why read it: This story is great for young children. It is short and sweet, making it perfect for those with a shorter attention span. Parents and kids alike will love its bold illustrations and simple plot.
