Father's Day is different this year.
For the first time, the lunch choices can include all-you-can-eat Cooper's Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que.
For 50 years, Fort Worth has been known for barbecue. But it has always been a never-on-Sunday thing, with few restaurants open.
Cooper's opens at 11 a.m. and serves a bargain buffet featuring brisket, sausage and either chicken or pork ($11.49).
Never miss a local story.
Cooper's got off to a rocky start when the Hill Country barbecue family expanded to the Stockyards last year. But old friends from Llano are beginning to find the location next to Billy Bob's Texas.
The restaurant is making new friends with weekday lunch specials like boneless pork chops and weekend sirloin and prime rib.
It's open daily for lunch and dinner at 301 Stockyards Blvd., 817-626-6464; www.coopersbbqfortworth.com.
More barbecue stops for Dad:
Loco Coyote Grill, a true backroad Texas barbecue shack, serves the Hammond family's legendary barbecue plus steaks and catfish; dinner Thursday-Saturday and lunch Sunday at 1795 County Road 1004 near Glen Rose, 254-897-2324.
Hard Eight BBQ, a citified version of a Cooper's, opens for lunch and dinner weekdays and Saturdays and at 10:30 a.m. Sundays. Try the 2-inch pork chop, a grilled-to-order rib-eye or prime rib on weekends. 688 Freeport Parkway, Coppell, 972-471-5462 (Roanoke location coming soon); www.hardeightbbq.com.
North Main BBQ remains the region's best-known all-you-can-eat barbecue buffet. It's open all day Friday and Saturday and for lunch Sunday, serving beef, pork, chicken, sausage and the Green family's contest-wining ribs for $15. 406 N. Main St., Euless, 817-267-7821; www.northmainbbq.com.
Chef Keith Hicks from Buttons Food and Music knows how to round up a crowd.
Buttons is serving a double special this weekend: a "Big Daddy" 18-ounce rib-eye for $30, plus an entire menu of $10 dinners to celebrate both Father's Day and Juneteenth.
Buttons' original Fort Worth restaurant also serves a $22 Sunday brunch with afternoon music. It's open for lunch and dinner daily at 4701 West Freeway, 817-735-4900; www.buttonsrestaurant.com. Other locations are in Addison and DeSoto.
