Friday Freebies: Fan-tastic fun for families

With the kids out of school, Moms and Dads know the best relief for the summer heat is to keep the children occupied! There's no better way to entertain than rooting for the home team. So, here are some ideas for fantastic, fanatic fun for families in the Dallas/Fort Worth area:

1. Anime Celebration: This installment of "AdventureAsia: Family Days at the Crow" celebrates the superhero in all of us with Asian-themed cartoons and kid-friendly anime. Dress as your favorite superhero, enjoy comic demonstrations, yoga, Asian cartoons, face painting and more.
Good to know: Enter the superhero costume contest: Using only the materials provided, gather your team and create a superhero costume inspired by the collection in only 30 minutes! Then, let the crowd decide who is the ultimate superhero! Supplies limited; contest is limited to first 10 teams. Sign up begins at 12:30 PM.

2. Bring Your Horde Family Festival: The Mongolian-themed, outdoor family festival, which celebrates the opening of "Genghis Khan: The Exhibition," includes art projects, animals, games, live performances, archery lessons, and food from Genghis Grill.

3. Storytime at the Amon Carter: The program brings the museum’s artworks to life through engaging children’s stories and related art activities. A drawing will be held at the conclusion of the eight-week series. Perfect attendance throughout the summer makes you eligible to win all the titles – 24 free books – read during Storytime.For information on books, go to

4. NBA Finals Watch Party: Dallas Mavericks can cheer on the team with the Mavs Dancers, ManiAACs, Street Team, Ali Dee and Ro Parrish. You'll watch Game 2 on the full HD video boards inside American Airlines Center.
Good to know: The event is free but there are fess for parking. Parking will be available in Lots E and F for $5 and the Platinum parking garage for $10.

When: Enter through north and east doors beginning at 7 p.m., Thursday, June 2. Game starts at 8 p.m.

5. Stars Under the Stars: Sundance Square kicks off its fifth-annual outdoor summer movie series with "Raiders of the Lost Ark." Free movies will be shown every Thursday night through June 30. Beverages, popcorn and sweets are available at a snack-bar area. Guests are allowed to bring "to-go" food from area restaurants, as well as chairs or blankets to sit on. If you get there early (8 p.m.), kids can climb a rock wall. their own action-packed adventure - climbing a rock wall!
Good to know: No pets or outside coolers. Folding chairs will also be available for a $2 rental fee. Parking is free after 5 p.m. at all Sundance Square parking lots. Here's what will be shown this summer: Julie & Julia, June 9; Despicable Me, June 16; The Bucket List, June 23; and Seabiscuit, June 30.

 BONUS: 2-for-1 Exhibit Tuesdays: The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is offering a great deal during the summer months. Every Tuesday through August 30 is 2-for-1 admission. Bring the whole family to experience the new aviation exhibit, "Ascent…When Dreams Defy Gravity, and Champions."
Good to know: The second admission must be of equal or lesser value. Cannot be combined with any other offer. Does not apply to Omni Theater or Noble Planetarium tickets.
