FORT WORTH -- A 3-year-old died Wednesday afternoon after falling into a pool and apparently drowning, police said. Firefighters were called to a home in the 4700 block of China Rose Drive, where a boy had reportedly been pulled from the pool. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead at 12:39 p.m. The child was identified by the Tarrant County medical examiner's office as Jerimiah Chavana.
Sgt. Pedro Criado, a police spokesman, said no foul play is suspected. According to Criado, the family had recently moved into the home. The child apparently walked outside through a storm door that had a broken latch. "There was a pool in the back yard," Criado said. "There was a 4-foot picket fence around it and the latch was not functioning."
