Arthur Turns Green
by Marc Brown
Little, Brown and Co., $16.99
What it's about: In Arthur the aardvark's latest adventure, his class at school is challenged to come up with ways to make the Earth a better place. But at home, as Arthur scurries around doing unusual things like shuffling through the garage at night (he's sorting things for recycling), his little sister D.W. begins to worry. What is this Big Green Machine that Arthur keeps talking about? And is it going to literally turn her family green?
Why we like it: Your kids probably already love Arthur from Marc Brown's books and the PBS TV series. Here, kids will find humor in D.W.'s misunderstanding of "green," and they'll also learn about simple ways to save energy at home. Earth Day is Friday. This book would be an excellent way to launch a discussion about Earth Day and what we all can do to help the environment, no matter how old we are.
