A Dallas woman has been arrested on a complaint of intoxication assault after a one-vehicle wreck that injured four children Sunday night.
Shirley Ann Alfaro, 27, was driving a Chevy Suburban north on Cesar Chavez Boulevard approaching Grand Avenue when she clipped a guard rail and struck a concrete pillar, Dallas police spokesman Kevin Janse said.
There were five children in the back seat ranging in age from three to 11 years old, Janse said. Four of the children were taken to Children's Hospital in Dallas where two were in critical condition and two in serious condition. One child, a 3-year-old, was uninjured.
Alfaro's 33-year old boyfriend was a passenger in the right front seat and was transported to Parkland Hospital. His condition is unknown.

Alfaro faces four counts of intoxication assault, a third-degree felony, in the crash, Janse said. High speed and alcohol appear to be a factor in the crash.
The charges that Alfaro faces will be upgraded if any of the children's conditions change, Janse said. Investigators have not been apprised of any changes to the children's conditions.
