Here’s what’s new in bookstores this week:
▪ Blood in the Water, by Taylor Anderson (Roc, $27) — The Granbury-based author has written the 11th installment in his bestselling alternate history series, “Destroyermen.” Lt. Cmdr. Matt Reddy and the crew of the World War II-era USS Walker are once again battling the Grik — and a revenge-minded enemy from their past. The audiobook (Tantor Audio, $34.99) is read by veteran voice actor William Dufris.
▪ If I Forget You, by Thomas Christopher Greene (Thomas Dunne Books, $24.99) — The bestselling author follows his breakout novel, The Headmaster’s Wife, with this tale of star-crossed lovers. Alternating between the past and the present, working-class Henry and wealthy Margot fall in love at college and are forced apart. Twenty-one years later, a chance meeting in Manhattan reunites the two. Does their love endure?
▪ The Girls, by Emma Cline (Random House, $27) — The author’s debut novel examines female friendship set against the backdrop of the chaotic ’60s and the early days of a Northern California cult with a charismatic male leader. At 14, Evie is an angry, lonely lost soul — obsessed with a clique of cool teenage girls, one in particular. She joins their commune and becomes part of something that spirals violently out of control.
