Barrett Black of The Original Black's Barbecue in Lockhart, had a blowtorch station set up next to his brisket serving station at the Fort Worth Food + Wine Festival's BBQ Showdown on Thursday night. There he served up a Jalapeno, Cheddar and Maple Sausage, topped with a Maple glaze that gets a quick torch for caramelization.
Talk about keeping Austin weird. On Monday, Brendan McAllen of Wild Things Zoofari, a petting zoo in Austin, was on the streets during the South by Southwest festival offering people a chance to hold 9-month-old Cooper for a $5 fee that would help pay tuition for a 16-year-old from Austin who has been accepted to Stanford.
