Billy Bob's bags a prize
Nominated for a pair of 2008 Academy of Country Music Awards, Fort Worth institution Billy Bob's Texas learned Thursday that it won top honors for Nightclub of the Year, beating out venues in Colorado, Georgia, Illinois and North Carolina. This marks the third time Billy Bob's has received the prestigious prize and its 10th ACM trophy overall. "We are honored to receive this award again, especially since it is voted on by the industry," marketing director Pam Minick said. "We strive to not become complacent." She said Billy Bob's representatives will attend the awards ceremony May 18 in Las Vegas to collect the trophy.
Carey and Cannon connected
Mariah Carey really did marry Nick Cannon in the Bahamas last week. The 38-year-old singer and 27-year-old actor confirmed to People magazine that they tied the knot at Carey's Bahamian estate April 30 after a courtship that began in late March. In an interview from the magazine's May 19 issue, Cannon said they clicked instantly when Carey cast him as a lover in the video for her new single, Bye Bye. "From the first time we sat down to discuss the video at the Beverly Hills Hotel, we connected," Cannon said. The pair said they've thought about having kids. "It's part of the whole purpose of getting married," Carey said.
Star takes a swing at Walters
Nearly two years after Star Jones left The View on rocky terms, the 46-year-old TV personality has criticized former boss Barbara Walters for writing about her. In Walters' new memoir, Audition, she discusses how Jones wouldn't acknowledge her gastric bypass surgery on the air. She also writes about Jones' lavish wedding, which wound up alienating viewers as Jones accepted gifts in return for promotion. Jones confirmed her surgery last year in a first-person essay in Glamour magazine. In March, Jones quietly filed for divorce from banker Al Reynolds. The couple married in November 2004.
