Federal aid, bullying, teachers, word puzzles, power plants

Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012

I think it is interesting that the Star-Telegram's front page had an article stating that Texas is to receive millions of dollars in federal aid for people with home mortgage problems, and a separate story in which Gov. Rick Perry was speaking to the conservative PACs about states' rights and how each state needs to take care of itself.Read more

Abortion and cancer, First Amendment, religion and politics, Arlington diversity

The headline on Bud Kennedy's Sunday column was "Why can't cancer unify us?" After reading it, I realized it was meant as a purely rhetorical question. His opinion seems to be that we can't even be united on the subject of cancer because those pesky pro-life people just won't shut up about the more than 300,000 babies being killed annually by Planned Parenthood.Read more

Jobs for veterans, voter ID laws, Super Bowl halftime

Up to 10 cities are considering parades to welcome the veterans who came home from Iraq. When we came home from Vietnam, there were no parades. But I was guaranteed my old job back, and I was eligible for a G.I. Bill that allowed me to get a college degree. Given the choice between a parade and a chance at building a future, I bet most of these veterans would skip the parade. Let's help our veterans get their lives back and forget the showboating.Read more

Voter ID, classroom technology, self-government, Komen/Planned Parenthood controversy

I don't see the problem with showing an ID to vote. Four years ago, I was made to show an ID before I could buy a beer at the National Mall. I was to turn 71 the next week. When I informed the young lady of my age, she informed me that everyone had to show an ID to prove their age before she could sell them a beer. I have to show an ID to use my debit or credit card, cash a check or complete almost any transaction. But I guess buying a beer is more important than voting.Read more
