BEDFORD -- Police are investigating a shooting that sent a teenage boy to the hospital Sunday night.
The teen, who police declined to identify, was inside an apartment at The Hamptons at Central, 805 Central Drive in Bedford, when several rounds were fired through the front door at about 10:15 p.m., said Lt. Kirk Roberts, a Bedford police spokesman.
The teen was initially struck in the arm, and the bullet passed into his torso, Roberts said. The teen was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth with injuries that were not believed to be life threatening. His parents were with him at the hospital, where he was scheduled for surgery to remove the bullet today, Roberts said.
It was unclear whether the door had been opened prior to the shooting, but all of the shots went through the door, police said. Several other people, including adults, were in the apartment at the time, Roberts said. Investigators believe that the teen, who does not live at the apartment, or one of the other people there were the intended victims. Police have no indication that the shooting was gang-related, he said.
Investigators are following several leads, he said.
