ARLINGTON — A 17-year-old Arlington man has been arrested in a weekend wreck that killed his friend.
Rowdylee Joseph Short remained in the Arlington Jail on Monday afternoon, accused of intoxication manslaughter. Bail was set at $50,000.
Short was driving his friend Craig Stepina's truck early Saturday on Perkins Road when it jumped a curb, hit two trees and a wooden fence and then flipped, police said. Short appeared to be intoxicated when police responded at about 1:15 a.m., said Lt. Blake Miller, an Arlington police spokesman.
Stepina died at the scene.
Short was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and consented to give a blood sample. Miller said. Short was booked into jail later Saturday morning, records show.
Stepina's father, Bill Stepina, said Short and his son "were like brothers" in a Star-Telegram article Sunday.
Police are waiting for toxicology results before forwarding the case to the district attorney's office, Miller said. The accident remains under investigation.
