Arlington city officials confirmed Tuesday that a top police department administrator resigned last week.
Assistant Police Chief Steve Chaney's resignation was effective Friday, said Joyce Williams, the city's director of Workforce Services. She could not provide details about why Chaney left his post, she said.
Chaney joined the Arlington department in 2007 and oversaw its support operations. He was placed on administrative leave Sept. 12 for reasons that officials have not released. A week later, Fort Worth officials announced that Chaney was one of six finalists for the police chief's job in that city. At the time, officials said they were not aware that Chaney had been placed on leave.
Tuesday afternoon, it was unclear whether Chaney was still being considered for the Fort Worth job.
