A serial rapist who attacks women in broad daylight is the target of Dallas police detectives who want the public's help in catching him.
The man, armed with a handgun and covered in tattoos, has used the same methods to abduct and rape three women on Aug. 12 and 25 and Sept. 20, according to reports.
All of the crimes happened in the Maple Avenue area northwest of the downtown area, said Senior Cpl. Kevin Janse, police spokesman.
The area is bordered by Harry Hines Boulevard on the west, Lemmon Avenue on the east, Inwood Road on the north and Wycliff Avenue on the south.
The women were all walking when they were approached by a light purple or lavender older-model four-door sedan, according to reports.
In each case, the suspect pointed the gun at the victims and ordered them into his car. He took the victims to a secluded area, raped them, and then released them without hurting them more.
He is described as a Hispanic man in his early-to-mid 20s, about 5-feet-6-inches to 5-feet-11-inches tall and weighing 130-170 pounds. He has short dark hair, brown eyes, a mustache and numerous tattoos on his arms, abdomen and neck.
Janse urged women who walk in that area to take extra precautions.
"The old adage of safety in numbers is very true in this case," Janse said. "He's targeting women walking alone in broad daylight, so if possible walk with a friend.
"(And) any time a car is slowly pulling up to you that you don't recognize, immediately turn and walk in the other direction."
Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the suspect. Anonymous tips can be made 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to 214-373-TIPS. Dallas detectives can be reached at 214-671-3584.
