The teenage boy who was severely hurt Monday when he was hit by a truck has been identified as Kevin Howard, 15.
He was struck at 6:15 p.m. in the 5400 block of Meadowbrook Drive, said Sgt. Rodney Bangs, supervisor of the traffic investigation unit.
Howard was taken in critical condition to John Peter Smith Hospital. His parents were notified Tuesday and have visited him at JPS.
A spokesman for the Fort Worth Independent School District confirmed that Howard is in the ninth grade at Eastern Hills High School.
Bangs had declined to release the name until the boy's family had been notified.
Witnesses told police that the boy was walking on the sidewalk and was possibly scared by some dogs that were being walked by another pedestrian, Bangs said.
"He jumped off the sidewalk into the street where he was struck by a passing truck," Bangs said. "The driver did stop."
