Springtown residents must boil water for drinking and cooking through Thursday after a water main broke Tuesday morning.
City secretary Jhanna Bogan said water must be brought to a rolling boil, and that boiling must continue for two minutes as a precaution against harmful bacteria and microbes that could be in the water supply.
Springtown sent water samples to a lab in Fort Worth, but test results are not available yet, she said.
The city will issue another notice when the water is safe to drink.
In the meantime, people can purchase bottled water.
The 8-inch line that crosses Walnut Creek, which is 3 feet below ground, broke when Texas Department of Transportation crews were cleaning up debris, Bogan said.
