Movie Review: "Gnomeo & Juliet"

What it is: Gnomeo & Juliet in 3D is Shakespeare's classic story of Romeo & Juliet retold in this animated film with kitschy but lovable garden gnomes. Gnomeo (voice of James McAvoy) and Juliet (voice of Emily Blunt) overcome the feud between their families with the help of a hilarious plastic yard flamingo named Featherstone (voice of Jim Cummings). Other characters voiced by Michael Caine, Maggie Smith and Ozzy Osbourne help bring this silly but heartwarming film to life.

What kids will like: Goofy physical comedy, fast paced lawnmower races between the red and blue gnomes and action-packed chase scenes kept our kids laughing and entertained until the credits hit the screen.

What parents will like: The gnomes are animated brilliantly down to the details of chipped paint and the hollow ceramic clink they make as they move. The abundance of literary and pop culture references are smart enough to keep the parents entertained and will get the kids interested in other works by Shakespeare as well. Wonderful upbeat music by Elton John will have the whole family tapping there tiny toes. It may not be Toy Story but its a fun romp through the garden for the entire family.

Good to know: My husband and kids enjoyed the 3-D, but in my opinion spend the extra money on some popcorn instead.
