The Old Cliche

It's one of the oldest cliches in the book:

"All I want for Mother's Day is for my family to be together and my kids to behave!"

I remember my own mom saying this, and being frustrated. I wanted her to give me some hints about what gift to choose or some direction on what she'd like to do on the big day. Just "being good" couldn't possibley be enough , could it?

Now, I get it.

I hav two terrific children. Really. But, lately, their behavior has been atrocious. Can I chalk it up to end-of-the-school-year excitement, warmer weather, later nighttime activities? Who knows? The bottom line is that my son is constantly jumping around and my daughter argues with everything I say. At five and three, this does not bode well for the future. I am very tired of disciplining in every situation, rather than just enjoying each other's company.

So, I have officially become the cliche. And I'm proud of it.

Please, please, let Sunday be a great day for all of us, filled with lots of "Yes, mams" and "I'll help's" and "Thank you's." Even if it's only one day, it will be proof that it can still happen!

Wishing you all a Happy Mother's Day!
