Three spotlights

Arlington Lamar swept Richland on Tuesday, advancing to a second-round playoff match against El Paso Franklin. The Lady Vikings were led by seniors Anna Berry (33 assists, 5 kills), Ashlyn Dibrell (13 kills, 13 assists), Mollie Cagle (14 kills) and Maggie Connally (12 digs, 2 aces).

A year after making a run to the regional semifinals, Arlington Seguin appears to be gearing up for a repeat after a sweep of Fort Worth Wyatt. The Lady Cougars were led by seniors Christine McCartney (18 kills, 8 digs), Stephanie Brock (34 assists, 7 digs) and Veronica Azubuike (6 kills).

Arlington swept Abilene at Abilene. The Lady Colts were led by Kaitlyn Granger (18 kills), Cydney Stayton (8 kills), Kendall Whitson (3 aces) and Mackenzie Nunn (38 assists).

Telling numbers

1,002 Kills Birdville senior middle blocker Caitlyn Juarez has in her career after a 16-kill night, lifting the Lady Hawks past Denton. Birdville, which meets Stephenville next, was also led by sophomore Ellen Sorrells (9 kills), freshman Allie Plunk (29 assists) and senior Kelsey Plunk (14 digs).

9 Kills from Southlake Carroll junior outside hitter Olivia Miano in the first game, which propelled the Lady Dragons to a sweep of Keller Central. Miano finished with 12 kills, as did sophomore outside hitter Sutton Sunstrum.

Bottom line

Mansfield Summit defeated Weatherford in five games, advancing to play Amarillo. The Lady Jaguars were led by Amy Moody (16 kills), Camille Cherry (25 assists), Shelby Wilson (3 aces), Alexis Mourning (14 kills) and Taylor Hooker (13 kills).

Behind senior middle blocker Bailey Williams’ 12 kills, Stephenville swept Fort Worth Arlington Heights. The Honeybees meet Birdville next.
