KELLER — The Colleyville Heritage Panthers emerged for their postgame huddle and the chant rose up, "Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy."

Then backup quarterback Jimmy Isbell was lifted on the shoulders of his teammates in appreciation for his clutch performance that led Colleyville Heritage to a 24-17 victory Friday against Keller.

With the game tied 17-17 and 16 seconds remaining, Isbell checked off the short route and went for the money pass. He earned the payoff when he hit receiver Jake Skinner, who bobbled the ball before reeling in a 31-yard touchdown catch with 10 seconds remaining.

"It feels pretty good, really good," Isbell said. "I knew when Jake was open I just had to make the throw. It was all him. He made the catch. I just threw it. I had to do it, had to do it."

The Panthers (7-2, 5-1 District 5-5A) face rival Grapevine (5-4, 5-1) next week with for second place in the district at stake.

Keller (5-4, 3-3) sits in the fourth playoff spot heading into the final week.

The Indians tied the game 17-17 on an impressive drive. Keller quarterback Cameron Allerheiligen hit Dillon Farley on a 20-yard touchdown with 1:41 left.

However, Isbell, who entered in the third quarter after starter Jeff Calvert rolled an ankle, took command.

Isbell engineered the drive by completing 3-of-3 passing attempts, minus one spiked ball to stop the clock. The drive took 43 seconds and covered 68 yards.

"I couldn’t be any more proud of him," Colleyville Heritage coach Mike Fuller said. "He comes in every week and works his tail off. He knows his role is to be there."

Colleyville Heritage opened the scoring in the second quarter on a quick, three-play, 65-yard drive. Calvert hit passes of 25 and 20 yards before running in from 20 to give the Panthers the 7-0 lead with 10:44 left before half.

Keller responded by marching 68 yards before running back Kelo Webster scored from the 4.

Each team turned the ball over twice in the opening half. The most crucial came when the Colleyville Heritage defense forced a fumble with Keller a yard from the end zone. Defensive back Cody Love recovered.
